Prekrasne Siberian Cats:

Beauty is more than skin deep

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.

About Me...

My name is Sue.  I have my small, hobby cattery here in Arizona.  I am originally from Iowa and grew up in a town called Sioux City.  It was there that I developed my love of animals.  I was lucky to have parents with a lot of patience and who weren't shocked every time I brought home a stray or wounded animal.  I've always loved cats.  I decided on Siberians as my breed after a accidentally happening upon them while research information on my dog - an American Eskimo.  I had been mulling showing and breeding for sometime and I thought Siberians as newer breed would give me a great chance to make a difference.

Prekrasne - Slavic (Croatian, Czech, etc.) meaning stunning or strikingly beautiful  Prekrasnya - Russian meaning magnificant

I wanted the Russian spelling but found a Russian cattery with the same name. Although they do not appear to be breeding at this time, I did not want to cause any confusion.

While I do breed, I have no desire to be a large scale breeder.  I prefer to have a handful of quality cats that occasionally have kittens.  By not having numerous cats, this allows me the time to spend with each cat and their kittens and also the time to spend attending shows.  I love my cats and I just don't feel it is in their best interests or mine to have so many that it becomes stressful for both of us.  So, I am content with my small group that gives me about 5 or 6 litters per year typically between March and August.

I do consider this a hobby.  I work full time and this is something I do because I love it and not to make money.  If I was doing this to make money, then I would be an awful business person because this has yet to happen. At best, I hope to one day break even between vet bills, regular care (food, litter, supplies), shows, cat furniture, gas, acquiring new cats when needed, etc. this is more of a challenge that one would think.  I imagine there are plenty of folks who do turn a profit but I am committed to doing certain things that are more costly.  This includes: donations, gene tests, HCM screenings, rigorous health checks for all new cats (we do ringworm checks, fecal tests, FeLV/FIV testing, and regular exams on ALL new cats regardless of where they come from), and showing regularly. So, for now this is my expensive hobby.  A hobby I take seriously, but most definitely done because I love the cats and the cat fancy.
